I enjoy the drama and awe that height with any plant can bring, there are some fantastic annual plants that can be grown climbing up temporary wigwams, Yet its not so easy with a perennial climber. Perennial climbers require strong durable support, year round to display their qualities.
I designed the obelisk to be the opposite to coat hanger debacles, the main frame is of angle iron, made of steel plate and the box shape gives masculine rigidity. The metal is then zinc powder coated, which is weather proof for 45 years and finally a vinyl black matt paint is added to allow the structure to be hidden easily beneath the desired plant.
The obelisk comes in two sections which bolt together for added strength and the whole structure is then bolted to a concrete, or in the case of the image herewith, a stone pedestal.
